Half an inch of rain fell in Washington Monday with more precipitation expected throughout the day and well into the evening. Heavy rain fell across the area, including areas of Louisa County with two to three inches observed Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Also, the National Weather Service received a report from a trained weather spotter of nearly six inches of rain near Cotter since Sunday with railroad tracks washed out.
There is a chance of thunderstorms today. Looking overall at the severe weather across the state so far this year, state climatologist Harry Hillaker said it varies from year to year and place to place, but for Iowa as a whole, “it’s been a fairly quite severe weather season.”
A flood watch is in effect for Columbus Junction and Wapello until Saturday and a flood warning is in effect for the Cedar River near Conesville until Thursday evening. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
