The Iowa Mennonite School boys and girls cross country teams opened the 2016 season in southeast Iowa by hosting the IMS Early Bird Meet Tuesday in Kalona.

The Iowa Mennonite boys team placed eighth out of the 10 competing teams with their score of 220 points. Iowa City, City High took the title with 16 points. Top finisher for the IMS boys was Levi Geyer in 17th with a time of 19:50.

Other finishers for the IMS boys included Jacob Boller 46th, Anthony Villatoro 54th, Micah Miller 59th, Gerardo Mendoza 72nd and Jared Schlabaugh 76th.

The Iowa Mennonite girls were seventh of nine competing teams with their score of 186 points. Iowa City, City High took the title with 17 points. Top finisher for the IMS girls was Calli Shaw 23rd with her time of 24:52.

Other finishers for the IMS girls included Mackenzie Gutierrez in 35th, Rachel Geyer in 56th, Sarena Gerber in 57th and Greta Schrag in 59th.

IMS will next be in action next week when they travel to Fairfield.
