Iowa’s drought conditions from last week to this week lessened slightly, by about 1.7% according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Currently 2.7% of Iowa is in moderate drought and just over 29% is abnormally dry, down from last week when 3.6% was in moderate drought and 30.7% was abnormally dry.

According to this week’s crop progress report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Iowa’s topsoil moisture is rated at 10% short, 82% adequate and 6% surplus. The subsoil moisture is similar at 12% short, 81% adequate and 5% surplus.
