For the past several years, the City of Keota has utilized a 1% local option sales tax to help the city with various projects. At their most recent meeting, the city council unanimously approved a resolution to call for a vote in the November general election to continue the tax. Keota City Clerk Niki Osweiler said this time it will not include a sunset date, which means it will continue until they decide to hold a vote to remove it.

They also unanimously approved a revenue purpose statement for the tax, saying 100% of the revenues received shall be used for infrastructure or any lawful purpose. Osweiler said some of the things it could go towards in the near future include: leverage for a grant to install a permanent restroom in their park, new equipment for the park, beautification for the city hall, or purchasing new equipment and vehicles for the city. Osweiler is hopeful the vote will pass at the election, as it benefits the community and allows them to pursue such projects.
