After racking up over 300 yards rushing in their season opening win versus Central City, Lone Tree Lion head football coach Chad Sheild wanted to make sure his offense could also throw the football. Senior Trey Pierson answered by completing all seven of his passes, amassing 174 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Lions in a 66-0 victory over Tri-County (0-1 overall) last Friday in Lone Tree.

Three of Pierson’s touchdown passes were received by senior Jovonte Squiers, last week’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week. Squiers finished the game with 173 yards of total offense (139 receiving) and four touchdowns.

For a second straight week, the Lions’ defense forced four turnovers. Junior Brock Smith recovered two fumbles, and sophomore Bryce Houser pounced on another. Pierson came up with Lone Tree’s only interception, returning it 36 yards for a touchdown.

The victory pushes Lone Tree’s record to 2-0 overall. The Lions hit the road for the first time this Friday, traveling to Victor for a matchup versus the HLV Warriors (1-1 overall). HLV lost to Iowa Valley Tigers (2-0 overall), 57-34, on Friday in Marengo.
