It was a historic night Friday in Lone Tree as the Lions’ football team (1-0 overall) competed in their first 8-man contest. The Lions welcomed the Central City Wildcats (0-1 overall) to town for a non-district clash. Lone Tree scored the first seven touchdowns of the game, cruising to a 63-22 victory.

Seven of Lone Tree’s nine touchdowns came on the ground. Seniors Jovonte Squiers and Drake Hotz ran in two touchdowns apiece to lead the Lions’ offense. Squires finished the game with 242 all-purpose yards, scoring four touchdowns, two on special teams.

Lone Tree’s first team defense didn’t allow a touchdown, forcing two turnovers. Senior Michael Schmidt led with seven total tackles and recorded the team’s lone sack. In total, Lone Tree grabbed four interceptions.

The victory improves Lone Tree to 1-0 overall. The Lions return to the gridiron Friday, hosting the Tri-County Trojans (0-0) in a non-district contest.
