Recently, Central College in Pella hosted a two-day honor choir event, and six Mid-Prairie High School choir students were able to attend. Mid-Prairie Vocal Director Collette McClellen said it was one of several preparatory events students will attend in anticipation for All-State choir auditions on the last Saturday of October. The seven pieces of music used for the auditions are released in late July, then students are able to go to honor choirs around the state to learn the music. She added, some of the students who attend the choirs may not audition for All-State, they just want to learn more challenging music.

Mid-Prairie students Ryan Sansen, Michael Meserole, Sawyer Black, Isaiah Sents, Makenzie Fay, and Kirsten Duwa were among the approximately 110 students from around the state to take part in the Central College Honor Choir. McClellan accompanied them at the event, and said it’s a good opportunity for choir directors to get a better idea of what the All-State music is like. McClellan will be sending students to several other honor choirs in the coming months, and the next one is the Conference Honor Choir on October 3rd in Durant.
