More postseason awards are being handed out to three members of the Sigourney Savages softball team (16-12 overall). The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released this year’s all-state softball teams and junior Kendall Streigle, and sophomores Autumn Barthelman, and Leah Carter were selected to the Class 1A team.

Streigle highlights Sigourney on the All-State 3rd team. Streigle was also named a first-team all-conference pitcher by the coaches of the South Iowa Cedar League. The Savages’ ace threw 147 innings in the circle and finished the year with a 15-9 overall record with a 3.57 earned run average. At the plate, Streigle had 41 hits in 89 at bats, 12 going for extra bases. Her three home runs topped the Savages, and her nine doubles ranked second.

Barthelman was also named as a member of the All-State third team. Barthelman, a first-team all-conference infielder, began the year at second base for Sigourney before moving to shortstop for the final 23 games of the season. She recorded 49 hits in 107 at bats, including a double, triple, and a home run. She led the team with 33 stolen bases and 37 runs scored. She also drove in 14 runs.

Carter was named an honorable mention all-state performer. Carter, a first-team all-conference catcher, posted a .921 fielding percentage, throwing out two base stealers. Carter collected 39 hits in 80 at bats, 10 of which went for extra bases. Her 24 runs batted in was the second most on the Savage squad, and her eight triples is the third most.

The Savages finished the season with a 16-12 overall record, a 10-win regression from last season. Sigourney loses Sierra Davis to graduation.
