The Riverside Volunteer Fire Department is looking into the possibility of selling two of their older trucks in order to purchase a new one. One truck is from 1983 and the other is from 1990, and Fire Chief Chad Smothers said the sale of them would go towards a chassis for a new grass fire truck. The estimated cost for the chassis would be around $45,000, and they’d additionally have to get a pump, tank, grass fire fighting skid unit, and a flatbed built for it. However, Smothers said the money would potentially come from fundraisers and the sale of the older trucks, so it wouldn’t take any tax dollars.

Used fire trucks can often be sold using websites for national fire truck dealers. The Riverside Fire Department used those last year when they sold a different truck to help with the purchase of their new ladder truck. They can also advertise with the Iowa Firefighters Association, or utilize the League of Cities as additional avenues for selling the trucks.
