Soil moisture improved across Iowa from last week to this week according to the Iowa Crop Progress and Condition report released this week for the week ending August 14th by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This week topsoil mostiure rates at only eight percent short to very short, down from 12% the week before. Currently, topsoil moisture is 92% adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is 89% adequate to surplus. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey said, “The recent storms caused some isolated damage, but also brought some needed moisture during this critical time of the growing season for soybeans.”
