Ninety-four farm families across the state have received the Iowa Farm Environmental Leader Award and one is from Washington. The award recognizes efforts of farmers as environmental leaders who are committed to healthy soils and improved water quality and have shown such commitment through voluntary actions to protect the environment. Darrell Steele of Washington received the award. The awards were presented during the Iowa State Fair by Governor Terry Branstad, Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey and Iowa Department of Natural Resources Director Chuck Gipp. This is the fifth year of the awards and over 400 families in Iowa have received the recognition.
