Six preschool classrooms and a daycare space are being added to Stewart Elementary School in Washington. Superintendent Jeff Dicks states work is progressing ahead of schedule and they expect to be in the space by Thanksgiving. Originally it was believed they’d have access January 1st. The roof is already on the new wing. He hopes this project will help attract young families to settle in Washington, as their children can begin as babies in the daycare and progress all the way through second grade in one building.

The project was funded in part by a public bond measure of $2.3 million and with a $950,000 Women of Washington Iowa Endowment, or WOWIE, gift.
