The United Way of Johnson and Washington County is looking for volunteers for their Labor Day event called granGABLE. The event is named for wrestler and coach Dan Gable, and is a bike ride co-sponsored by RAGBRAI. The ride will start at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, and will take participants all around Johnson County, including through Hills, Lone Tree, and Coralville, before it finishes at Kinnick Stadium.

United Way Vice President for Community Impact and Engagement Patti Fields explained there are volunteer opportunities to do things such as helping along the route at rest stops, helping with timing for the event, and at the celebration at the end of the route. The annual event was created to encourage good health, exercise, and a commitment to excellence, in addition to celebrating all things Hawkeye. This year’s event features two route lengths, the traditional 100 mile route, and a 60 mile route. To volunteer, visit VolunteerCenterJWC.org, or email Fields at patti.fields@unitedwayjwc.org.
