Iowa’s first high school football game of the season took place Thursday night in Victor. The WACO Warriors (0-1 overall) began their first season in 8-man football against the HLV Warriors (1-0 overall). HLV jumped out to a 12-0 halftime lead, and hung on for a 28-13 victory over WACO.

Sophomore Colton Horak showed offensive versatility for WACO. Horak scored the Warriors’ two touchdowns on long receptions, collecting 132 receiving yards. He also amassed 40 yards on 15 carries and completed a 50-yard fourth quarter pass to sophomore Tim Ackles.

Senior Jackson Roth posted 90 passing yards, scoring a touchdown and throwing an interception before having his night cut short due to injury. The severity of the injury is unclear at this time.

WACO’s offense turned the ball over four times in their season opener, two interceptions and two fumbles. The loss drops the Warriors to 0-1 on the season. WACO hosts Twin Cedars next Friday at WACO High School.
