With Labor Day weekend looming, Washington County Conservation has focused on making sure Marr Park is ready for an influx of visitors. Naturalist Pam Holz said the staff has been busying themselves with getting trails mowed, ensuring there’s no issues with the campgrounds, and taking care of basic maintenance. The park does not take reservations for their camping areas, so she is unsure of just how busy they’ll be. However, if history is any indicator, she believes the campgrounds will be at capacity the entire weekend.

Marr Park has had a record-setting summer in terms of overall attendance, and Holz is hoping Labor Day will be a fitting cap on the season. The weather forecast for the weekend calls for clear skies and temperate weather, and she believes since it’s been a hot summer people will revel in being outdoors in ideal conditions. She does warn that the timbered areas, while fun to explore, have had mosquito problems, but in the open areas of Marr Park, they haven’t been as big of an issue. The park rents campsites on a first-come, first-serve basis, and Holz advises people with RV’s to call ahead to make sure there’s space available. In addition to camping, she recommends people take advantage of picnic areas, hiking, fishing, and bird-watching opportunities.
