A record breaking season for Washington quarterback Ryan Reighard came to an abrupt end last fall in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs. During his 237th carry of the season, Reighard suffered a broken arm in the fourth quarter of Washington’s 17-14 loss to the Solon Spartans. Before the injury, Reighard amassed a program-best 1,526 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Reighard spoke with KCII Sports about his sophomore season under center and his health entering fall camp. He is pleased with the team’s accomplishments during last year’s 7-3 campaign. He adds his arm is fully healed and continues to get stronger with the work he’s put in the weight room this off season.

When he did throw the football, Reighard’s top target was classmate, Jaivonn Willis, who caught 54 passes for 796 yards and 10 touchdowns. Reighard said he threw a lot of fade balls and short passes to Willis, using his 6′ 3″ tall frame to out jump opposing corner backs. Reighard and Willis are among seven returning starters, including four returners along the Demon offensive line.

The newest season of Washington Demon football kicks off August 26, traveling to Albia for a non-conference match up versus the Class 2A Blue Demons.Listen to an interview with Reighard and Willis on the debut of the Friday Night Football Roundtable, this Friday at 6 p.m. on KCII.
