Recently a water main at Mid-Prairie Middle School broke and caused water to come above ground. The school acted quickly to call the City of Kalona and local plumbers to get the problem isolated and taken care of. Principal Marc Pennington said crews worked all day Friday and late into Monday night, and were successful in getting water back to the building.

Pennington said the line was old and broke last year as well, at which point they patched it. After it broke in a different spot this year, they decided to completely replace the line. He was thankful to the city and all the contractors that worked so quickly to repair the problem so they could have running water for the start of school. While the toilets and sinks were immediately operational, they still needed to run tests on the water for drinking, but Pennington is confident it will be ready soon.
