Fifteen members of the Mid-Prairie class of 1970, as well as some of the football coaching staff, were in attendance at Friday’s football game against West Liberty. In addition to celebrating the 1969 undefeated season, the group was given the opportunity to tour the new indoor athletic facility. Don Showalter, who was a member of the undefeated team and also a former coach and administrator for Mid-Prairie, said the facility shows the pride the school has, as well as the support the community provides. He believes there’s not many schools the size of Mid-Prairie that could put this type of facility together.

Mid-Prairie head football coach Pete Cavanagh agrees with Showalter’s assessment about the uniqueness of the facility, and believes it gives his team an extra advantage, especially in poor weather as they can still have productive practices inside. He said it’s not the same size as a football field, but that doesn’t matter because it still allows them to get done what they need to get done. Showalter added, even though he’s now on the outside of the program looking in, the facility is a good representation of the sense of community at Mid-Prairie. He’s excited to see how it benefits and improves the student experience.
