A Washington Demon alum continues to make an impact on the Division I University of South Dakota Coyotes (USD) football team (1-2 overall). Alex Coker is three games into his redshirt sophomore season on the USD squad, starting at outside linebacker.

The Coyotes were on the field Saturday, September 17th, in Grand Fork, ND as USD squared off against the University of North Dakota (UND) Fighting Hawks (1-2 overall). UND overcame a 20-point first half deficit, prevailing over USD in double overtime, 47-44. Coker led the Coyotes’ defense with two sacks. He also accounted for seven total tackles (five assisted), and 2.5 tackles for loss.

Coker has tallied 23 tackles this fall, including 3.5 for loss and three sacks. He recorded 12 tackles as a reserve linebacker during his freshman season last fall, becoming one of 39 Coyotes to play in all 11 games.

The USD football team had a bye this week, and will resume their season October 1 when they travel to Ohio for a Missouri Valley Football Conference matchup versus Youngstown State University (2-1 overall).
