A tough district football game had the No. 10 Washington Demons (4-1 overall; 2-1 Class 3A District 5) battle the Fairfield Trojans Friday night at Trojan Stadium. As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, Washington’s defense forced five turnovers and tallied five tackles for loss , assisting the Demons to a 24-7 win over the Trojans.

Two of the forced turnovers came from senior John Dillon. Dillon, named the Washington County Hospital and Clinics player of the game, recorded 3.5 total tackles, recovered a fumble, and returned an interception 28 yards as the Demons’ starting middle linebacker. Thomas Zimmer grabbed a fourth quarter interception, returning it 34 yards. Matthew Reighard and Bryce Sinn each came up with one fumble recovery.

The Demon offense was led by quarterback Ryan Reighard, who collected 275 yards of total offense (147 rushing), and scored three touchdowns (two rushing). Jacob Hall was the Demons’ top receiver, catching four passes for 68 yards. Reighard’s one touchdown pass went to Jack Redlinger for 27 yards.

Prior to Friday’s game, Fairfield had committed two offensive turnovers in their 16 quarters played. Quarterback Cameron Baumann accounted for 156 yards of total offense (114 rushing) and one touchdown.

The win improves Washington’s record to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in district play. The Demons welcome the Keokuk Chiefs (2-3 overall) to Case Field this week for Washington’s annual homecoming game.
