After a convincing win over the Albia Blue Demons, several statewide publications have kept the Washington Demon football team (1-0 overall) in the top five of their Class 3A poll. Washington shutout the Blue Demons, 42-0, last Friday in Albia.

Radio Iowa’s High School football poll kept Washington as the second ranked team in Class 3A. The poll’s No. 1 team, Cedar Rapids Xavier (1-0 overall), stays at the top spot after a 35-26 victory over the Iowa City Regina Regals. The Pella Little Dutch (1-0 overall) moved into the No. 3 spot with a 37-13 victory over the Oskaloosa Indians (0-1 overall). Norwalk (1-0 overall) and Webster City (1-0 overall) round out Radio Iowa’s top five teams in their Class 3A poll.

For a second straight week, the Des Moines Register has ranked the Demons as the No. 1 team in Class 3A football. Washington was also found on the Register’s Super 10 All-Class football rankings as well, slated as the No. 6 team in Iowa.

The first Associated Press poll was released this week and had Washington ranked as the third best team in Class 3A. Cedar Rapids Xavier tops the initial AP poll, and the Pella Little Dutch were slated as the second best team. Xavier, Pella, and Washington all received six first place votes and were separated in the poll by nine votes.

The Washington Demon football team resumes their season tomorrow, hosting the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks (1-0 overall) in a non-district tilt. Live play-by-play coverage from Case Field begins with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame show at 7 p.m. on AM/FM KCII. The game will also stream online at KCIIRadio.com and on the KCII mobile app.
