The Washington Demon marching band will take the field tonight. The high school band is holding its friends and family night at Case Field under the direction of drum majors Jessie Buchholz and Meredith Raber. They’ll be performing their field show with the theme the Battle of Thermopylae.

Director Don Hughes explains it tells the ancient story of the small Greek army battling the large Persian forces led by Xerxes. One song , called Xerxes, was the inspiration for the show which also includes some Greek folk songs and a drum feature called Firestorm. The band has been practicing the music and drills since early August.

The show begins at 7 p.m. tonight at Case Field in Washington. The band also performs at halftime of the home football games throughout the season.
