The Washington Demon cross country teams held their annual meet Tuesday at the Washington Golf and Country Club. Runners from Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keota, Keokuk, and Sigourney traveled to town for the race.

Claire Horak had another fourth place finish, topping the Demon girls’ squad with a time of 20:50.01. Molly Sparks and Meredith Raber also placed in the top 10. Sparks finished ninth overall with a time of 22:40.18, while Raber was four seconds behind Sparks for 10th place. Ashley Telleen ranked 22nd, Maggie Vos finished 23rd, Peyton Cuddeback was 26th, and Cierra Miller took 36th place. The Demons finished third in the team standings with 68 points. Fort Madison won the team title with the lowest score of 27.

A pair of Horaks finished in the top 10 of the boys’ race. Brennan Horak topped Washington’s boys team, placing seventh with a time of 18:26.96. Evan Horak finished three seconds later, taking eighth place. Jacob Van Osdol took 11th place, Owen Horak placed 15th, Ben Loy finished 23rd, Kyle Anderson was 32nd, and Kiowa Keith came in 38th. Washington took second place in the team standings with 64 points. Fort Madison won the team title with 33 points.

The Demons will resume their season at the Wellman Golf Course Monday, taking part in a meet hosted by the Iowa Mennonite School.
