Early voting in Iowa for the general election begins this week. The first day residents can vote absentee in the auditor’s office is this Thursday, September 29th. The same day, absentee ballots will be mailed out to those who have requested them. Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer says many people have been voting early in recent elections; eight years ago there were about 3,000 absentee votes in Washington County and in 2012 there were about 5,000 votes cast early.

The general election will be held November 8th with polls open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Iowa. If you’d like a ballot to be mailed to your home, you can submit a request form to the Washington County Auditor’s Office.
