This week, G38 in Washington County was reopened to thru traffic. The section of G38 two miles west of Elm Avenue had been closed since mid-April to remove an old bridge and replace it with a pretensioned, prestressed concrete beam bridge. Also, the approach pavement and guardrails were improved on both sides of the bridge.

The Washington County Engineer’s Office explains money from the Highway Bridge Program and Farm-to-Market construction dollars were used to pay for the project, which cost approximately $937,000. Iowa Bridge and Culvert, Inc., of Washington did the work.
