The Highland Huskies football team welcomes top ranked, six time defending state champion Iowa City Regina to Riverside Friday night for a class 1A district contest.

Highland comes into the matchup with a 2-2 overall record. The Huskies fell to No. 9 in class 1A Wilton last week by a 35-18 score. Jake Wood was 18 for 36 through the air in the loss for 230 yards two picks and a score. Trent Lasek finished with 117 receiving yards on seven catches and a touchdown. On the year the Huskies are led by Wood through the air with a best in the district 618 yards and nine passing touchdowns, giving the Huskies an advantage against the Regals through the air. Wood’s favorite target is Trent Lasek with 17 catches for 269 yards and three touchdowns on the year. Highland’s top ground gainer is Trey Lasek with 314 yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries. The Highland defense leads the district and is fifth in the state with six interceptions in their first four games.

Iowa City Regina enters this week as the No. 1 team in class 1A with a 3-1 overall record, coming off of a 50-28 win last week over Sigourney-Keota in Iowa City. Michael Conlon was 14 of 24 through the air for 199 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Jake Vollstedt finished with 177 yards on the ground on 18 carries and four touchdowns. Conlon leads Regina through the air on the year, going 28 for 43 for 360 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Vollstedt leads the Regals on the ground with 276 yards this year on 35 carries with five touchdowns. Jack Jensen is the leading receiver in the district 16 catches for 319 yards and three touchdowns. The Regals lead the district in total yards and touchdowns.
