It’s been a perfect month of September for the Highland Huskies volleyball team (12-4 overall). Since their four-set victory over Winfield-Mount Union on September 1, the Huskies have rattled off eight straight match wins. Prior to the winning streak, Highland had won four of their first eight matches.

Sophomore Aly Stokes, this week’s KCII Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week, has transitioned into the Huskies’ top offensive player. Stokes leads the team with 84 kills, 16 more than the rest of the team. Stokes has tallied 60 kills, 48 digs, and 12 aces during Highland’s winning streak. Senior Kelsey Hora is the team’s top defensive player, posting 146 digs.

The winning streak will be tested tonight as Highland travels to Wayland for pool play matches of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference volleyball tournament. The Huskies are the No. 2 seed in their five-team pool. The Wapello Arrows are the No. 1 seed. The top two teams from each pool will play in the finals of the tournament Saturday at Southeastern Community College in West Burlington.
