White-tailed deer hunting is about to kick off, and it starts with two specialized seasons. According to the Southeast District Wildlife Specialist Bill Ohde of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, September 17th through October 2nd is youth hunters season and disabled hunters season. During that time frame, kids and people with disabilities who have hunting licenses are allowed first crack at deer hunting. Archery season is the first adult hunting season, and that begins Saturday, October 1st, and is followed by early muzzle-loader season, which runs from October 15th – 23rd. After that, the first shotgun season opens Saturday, December 3rd and runs for five days, and the second begins December 10th and runs for nine days. The final season is late muzzle-loader season, which begins the day after the second shotgun season ends and goes until January 10th. Hunters can purchase an any sex tag for $28.50, which is also the price for their first antlerless tag. Each additional antlerless tag is $13.
