Only five counties in Iowa are currently experiencing any drought conditions. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, just 1.15% of the state is abnormally dry and that area is in Appanoose, Monroe, Lucas, Wayne and Decatur counties. Topsoil moisture in Iowa is mostly adequate, according to this week’s crop progress and condition report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 86% of Iowa’s topsoil moisture is adequate and eight percent is surplus. Subsoil moisture is similar with 85% adequate and seven percent surplus. This data does not include any rain that fell after Tuesday.
