At their most recent council meeting, the City of Keota approved the submissions of three grant requests for two public projects. Two of the proposals are for the city’s pool liner project. City Clerk Niki Osweiler said the city pool has aged poorly and has become rough and cracked. Their previous efforts to repair the pool have proven ineffective, so they’ve decided to install a pool liner. The liner will make the surface softer, while preventing further wear and tear. Osweiler said the pool liner should last nearly 25 years, which would help in the long run. The total cost of the project is estimated at $105,598, and the city submitted grant proposals to the Washington County Riverboat Foundation in the amount of $65,598, and to the Keokuk County Community Endowment Foundation for $5,000. They also have $30,000 matching from the city, and $10,000 from other anticipated private grants going toward the project.

The other grant request was also to the WCRF in the amount of $149,500 to help with moving the trail head of the Kewash Nature Trail to a different location. The total cost of the trail head project is estimated at $245,000.
