The game was over in the first quarter Friday night at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman as the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks blasted the visiting Camanche Indians 61-14 on Homecoming.

In a game heard on AM and FM KCII. Mid-Prairie scored touchdowns on their first five possessions of the game and seven of their first eight ended in the end zone. The Hawks got on the board on a 45 yard Ricky Vargas touchdown run two minutes into the game. Carter Reinier doubled the Golden Hawk lead with a pick six 45 seconds later. Vargas found the end zone a second time in the quarter to push the lead to 20-0. Keaton Duwa scored his first touchdown on the year out of the backfield on a 15 yard run to make it 26-0. Mid-Prairie continued to pour it on with Vargas and Duwa racking up a combined four more touchdowns in the first half to give the Hawks a 54-0 lead at the halftime break. In the second half Duwa scored his fourth rushing touchdown of the night to give Mid-Prairie a 61-0 lead on the first possession of the third quarter. Camanche scored two fourth quarter touchdowns with the game already decided.

The 61 points scored by Mid-Prairie are the seventh most in a single game in school history. The Golden Hawks outgained Camanche 325-145 including 325 to 11 on the ground. In the first half, Mid-Prairie defense held Camanche to -7 yards rushing. Ricky Vargas finished with 133 yards and four touchdowns on just eight carries. Keaton Duwa had 15 carries for 117 yards and four touchdowns. With the win Mid-Prairie improves to 2-3 on the year and 1-2 in district play. They will next be in action Friday when they travel to Williamsburg.
