Based on first Monday enrollment numbers, the Mid-Prairie School District currently has the highest number of students it’s ever had. Superintendent Mark Schneider said after school starts on the first Monday of the year, they take count of students at all five buildings in the district to come up with an unofficial enrollment number. Official numbers will be released October 1st, but Schneider says it does give them an idea of how this year’s numbers compare to previous years. Based on first Monday calculations, there were 1,290 students in the K-12 classes, marking an increase from 1,240 in 2015. With the inclusion of preschool, home school assistance, and alternative learning center numbers, the total preliminary district enrollment is 1,755 students. According to Schneider, both figures are the highest in the district’s history.

These numbers don’t take into account open-enrolled students, who will count towards the numbers at other schools. As such, the certified enrollment could potentially be less, though Schneider feels it’s still a good indicator of the growth of the district. Enrollment numbers are important, because the amount of money the schools are allotted by the government during the year is based on those numbers. The school with the largest increase in students was Washington Township Elementary, which principal Robin Foster attributed to several factors including more desirable class-sizes.
