The Mid-Prairie marching band has its two biggest competitions coming in early October. The first is the Wilton Festival of Bands on Saturday, October 8th, the second is the State Marching Band Contest on Saturday, October 15th in Pella. Band instructor David Kunz is confident the band will do better than last year. He felt the band did well, but believes this year’s group is stronger than in years past. They play better, they’re bigger, and their marching fundamentals are stronger, according to Kunz, so he’s looking forward to the competitions.
Several years ago, the Mid-Prairie band placed first at the Wilton Festival, and Kunz believes they could have a similarly strong showing at this year’s competition. They will be joined at the State Contest by marching bands from area schools, including Washington and Highland, though they are in different classes and won’t compete against them. The Mid-Prairie marching band’s show is a series of KISS songs, including “Rock and Roll All Night,” “Beth,” and “Detroit Rock City.”
