The City of Mount Union is continuing their journey down the road to unincorporation, and the next step is a public vote in the November 8th general election. Mayor John Marek explained the city council held a vote to unincorporate, but a petition was presented by those opposed to the decision to have a public vote on the issue. They are now in a holding period, and won’t begin selling assets for the purpose of unincorporation until after the election. Marek feels confident the measure will pass, though he had hoped to avoid a public vote so they could begin the process before winter. His desire was to sell the city’s snow plow and put snow removal in the hands of the county before snow hits, but now they won’t be able to make the transition until well into the winter months.
