This Friday, Red Cedar Chamber Music is returning to the Ainsworth Opera House for a special concert. According to local historian Mike Zahs, the ensemble has appeared at the opera house over 25 times, though they’ve never held a concert like this. Meira Kim and Carey Bostian, the core ensemble of Red Cedar Chamber Music, will play the violin and cello respectively. They will showcase not only the amount of music that can be created by just the two instruments, but also illustrate the acoustics of the opera house. Zahs said while Kim and Bostian have performed at the opera house several times, this will be the first time with just the two of them.

The music to be played will be predominantly by Hungarian composers, and with that in mind, the opera house is hosting an authentic Hungarian meal before the concert. Zahs describes the food as basic and not spicy, but flavorful. The concert will also include a new work called “Red Cedar Express” by Iowa composer Michael Kimber. The dinner begins at 6 p.m. and the concert will start at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are $20.
