Four games into the season and the top runner in Class 1A District 4 hails from Sigourney High School. The Sigourney/Keota Cobras football team has won three of its first four games, losing last Friday to the No. 1 Iowa City Regina Regals, 50-28. The Cobras are ranked No. 10.

Senior running back Avery Moore tops Class 1A District 4 with 571 rushing yards on 43 carries. He is averaging 13.3 yards per carry and has found the endzone 10 times. Moore, KCII’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week on September 7, rushed for a career-high 238 yards against the Regals, scoring three touchdowns.

Moore leads the district in rushing by more than 150 yards. Wilton’s Bryce Oveson’s 413 yards rushing is the second best mark in the group. His six touchdowns also ranks second in the district.

Moore and the Cobras are hosting the Van Buren Warriors (0-4 overall) tonight at Sigourney High School. The game is recognized as Sigourney’s homecoming game. The Keota Eagles will celebrate homecoming in January.
