Southeast Iowa is the driest area of the state in regards to soil moisture, but remains adequate. According to this week’s Crop Progress and Condition report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Iowa’s topsoil moisture is 86% adequate and 10% surplus while southeast Iowa’s is 13% short, 76% adequate and 3% surplus. The state’s subsoil moisture is 84% adequate and 9% surplus and our corner of the state’s subsoil moisture is rated at 17% short, the highest of any region, 72% adequate, and 2% surplus.
