Forty years ago the first show was performed on the stage of the Washington Community Center – it was Of Thee I Sing. This weekend a gala is being held in celebration of the 40-year milestone. The stage has held plays, musicals, bands, fair queen contests, symphonies and more over the years. Bob McConnell, director of the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra, who will be playing at the gala, shared they’ll be performing musical selections from shows that have been presented at the theater over the last 40 years. There will also be a presentation about Leon Hilfman, who helped with many shows over the years.

Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the door at the community center for $30. The gala begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday with a cocktail reception.
