The No. 10 Washington Demon football team (4-1 overall; 2-1 overall) got back on the winning track last night. As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons traveled to Jefferson County for a district battle versus the Fairfield Trojans (3-2 overall; 1-2 overall). The Demons prevailed over the Trojans, 24-7.

Washington took a 6-0 lead with 1:39 remaining in the first quarter on a four-yard touchdown run by quarterback Ryan Reighard. The extra point was blocked. Washington added to their lead right before halftime as place kicker Anthony Torres connected on a 32-yard field goal as the second quarter expired. Washington held a 9-0 halftime lead.

The Demon offense added to their advantage midway through the third quarter. With 6:04 remaining, Reighard connected with tailback Jack Redlinger for a 27-yard touchdown pass. Washington’s two-point conversion was successful, bringing the score to 17-0. Fairfield’s lone touchdown came with 8:42 remaining in the game. Quarterback Cameron Baumann found the endzone on a three-yard run, cutting Washington’s lead to 17-7. Washington capped off the scoring with 3:04 remaining in the game on a 14-yard touchdown run by Reighard, making the final score, 24-7. Washington’s defense tallied five tackles for loss and forced five turnovers.

The victory brings Washington’s record to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in district play. The Demons returns to the field next Friday at home versus the Keokuk Chiefs in Washington’s annual homecoming game.
