Southeast Conference opponents will collide on the gridiron tonight in Fairfield. The No. 10 Washington Demon football team (3-1 overall; 1-1 Class 3A District 5) will travel to Trojan Stadium for a district matchup against the Fairfield Trojans (3-1 overall; 1-1 Class 3A District 5).

The Demons are coming off their first loss of the season, a 36-15 setback to the No. 9 Solon Spartans (3-1 overall; 2-0 Class 3A District 5). Washington’s 15 points were scored in the first 16 minutes of the competition. Solon scored 36 unanswered points in the final 28 minutes. Quarterback Ryan Reighard enters the week as the district’s rushing leader, amassing 722 yards on 78 carries. Reighard has accounted for 16 touchdowns, nine passing and seven rushing.

Washington’s defense has forced eight turnovers, four interceptions and four fumble recoveries, and has returned one interception for a touchdown, carried in by Dalton Myers. Bryce Sinn’s four sacks are the second- most in the district, and his seven tackles for loss ranks him third.

The Trojans got back on the winning track last week in Keokuk, upending the Chiefs (2-2 overall; 0-2 Class 3A District 5), 33-16. The Trojans’ only loss came two weeks ago versus the undefeated West Burlington Falcons (4-0 overall; 2-0 Class 3A District 5), 20-13. Quarterback Cameron Baumann has the district’s second- most rushing yards behind Reighard, accounting for 440 yards on 73 carries. Fairfield’s defense has forced six turnovers, four interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Michael Fritz’s 26.5 total tackles are the sixth-most recorded in the district.
