Fresh off of their first win of the season last week, the Columbus Wildcat football team opens district play tonight by hosting Wilton for homecoming.

The Wildcats are 1-1 on the early season after a 24-6 win over Danville last week. Columbus was led in the game by Carter Colby with 143 total yards and two touchdowns. On the season Columbus is led through the air by Colby who is four for 13 for 81 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Colby’s favorite target is Ruben Paz who has two catches for 47 yards. On the ground the Wildcats are led by Colby with 124 yards on 27 carries and a pair of scores.

Wilton comes into tonight at 2-0 with wins over Tipton 32-8 and Durant 57-32. Against the Wildcats last week the Beavers racked up 428 yards of total offense, led by Jerome Mays who was 13 of 17 through the air for 168 yards and two scores. Mays also finished with 95 yards rushing and three more touchdowns. Mays is 21 for 29 passing on the year for 257 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His favorite receiver is Jacob Sheperd who has nine catches for 99 yards. Bryce Oveson leads the way for the Beavers on the ground with 275 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries.

The 2016 Columbus homecoming king and queen will be announced at halftime of the football game. Action between the Wildcats and the Beavers kicks off tonight at 7PM.
