Over 120 painted wooden quilt patches can be found across Washington County on barns, workshops, homes and corn cribs. Barn Quilts of Washington County is hosting a meeting this week about the county-wide project and they’re looking for interested people to help with continuing and maintaining the barn quilts.
The group was formed in 2007 and in 2010 Governor Chet Culver issued a certificate of recognition to Washington County Barn Quilters for “Preserving Our Heritage in a Modern World.” Washington County’s barn quilts are in four driving loops with different themes – the Amish Loop, the Liberty Loop, the Nature Loop and the Agricultural Loop. Each of the barn quilts in the respective loop support the theme.
The meeting will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington County Extension office.
