Mt. Pleasant Middle School was put on alert Thursday afternoon due to a bomb threat discovered in the boy’s bathroom. Just before 2 p.m., school officials were alerted to the threat written on a stall, and the Mt. Pleasant Police Department was called to the school. After a sweep of the school, it was determined the threat was not credible and there was no danger to the students or teachers. Superintendent John Henriksen said the school went through their “Stay Put” procedures, where all the students and teachers stayed in classrooms, and the halls were kept clear while they conducted the investigation. Once the police gave the all clear, classes continued as planned.

Friday morning the students all had their bags checked upon entering the school, and Henriksen said there was nothing out of the ordinary found during the search and it will not continue into next week. They will, however, continue the “Stay Put” procedures in an effort to keep people out of the hallways and avoid any additional problems as they continue to investigate. Henriksen thanks the Mt. Pleasant Police Department for their help, and applauds the teachers, staff, and students for the way they handled the situation. If anyone has any information regarding the source of the threat, they are encouraged to contact school officials or the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
