Some time between Friday night and Saturday morning, the St. James School and Church in Washington had a break-in. Principal Beth McBride reported little damage was done to the building, mostly to doors and windows. A small amount of petty cash was taken from a desk in the school, and several gold chalices were taken from the church’s sacristy. The break-in was discovered Saturday morning, though no point of entry was found. All doors and windows in the building remained secured.
The Washington Police Department was contacted, and the investigation is ongoing. McBride said three of the office windows which are most easily accessed have already been replaced, with the rest of the work continuing this week. While the police continue to investigate, the church and school have taken measures to secure the building, and will stay cautious. Anyone with information regarding the investigation should inform the Washington Police Department.
