Usually when a city spends $700 on a welcome sign, they expect it to last more than one weekend. Unfortunately for the City of Columbus Junction, that was not the case for the sign they purchased to welcome the riders of RAGBRAI to town. As city officials and crews were performing their cleanup the Sunday after the event, they discovered the sign that was placed on the bridge near the ride up to the city had gone missing. The city has been searching for the sign ever since, and the prevailing theory is it was stolen at some point during the weekend. There has been no trace of the sign, and no information regarding it, but city officials are hoping its return is still a possibility. They’ve discussed purchasing a new sign, but no decision has been made yet. If anyone has seen or has any information regarding the “Welcome to Columbus Junction” sign, they are encouraged to contact the city hall.
