Another brilliant spring campaign for the Washington Demon girls’ golf team netted them some significant postseason honors, including a pair of seniors taking home all-state selections. Makenna Conrad had the ninth-best adjusted score on average in Class 3A and was named first team all-state, putting up an adjusted score of 42.35 strokes per nine holes. Fellow senior Kaylin Long put up an mean score of 43.78 and made the second team with the 16th-best adjusted average.

Long finished tied for fourth at this year’s 3A state championships by shooting 13 over par across 36 holes and thus made the all-tournament first team at state. Conrad was second team by finishing twelfth at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.

Washington also received distinction for their work as a team both on and off the course. The Demons were awarded the Distinguished Academic Award by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union for making it to state as a team while having a combined grade-point average of better than 3.25. Washington posted a stellar 3.944 GPA as a team and was fourth in the team scoring at the 3A state tournament.
