Seventeen seniors on the Washington Demon football team (6-3) played their final game at Case Field last night. As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons welcomed the winless Fort Madison Bloodhounds (0-9) to town for a district matchup. Washington scored 30 points in the first and second quarter, running away with an 81-0 victory.

A majority of the seniors contributed to the victory. David Mares was Washington’s top rusher, recording 93 yards and two touchdowns. Trey Van Weelden added 66 rushing yards and one score. Tight end Bryce Sinn caught five passes for 57 yards and a touchdown. Guard Aaron Vittetoe tallied his first career varsity touchdown on a hook-and-ladder in the first half. Austin Hazelett had two receptions for 25 yards and Jack Carter caught his first varsity pass for eight yards. John Sands, Caleb Bex, and Matt Reighard all recovered a fumble. Karlton Skubal and Wil Marek had a pair of tackles for loss, while Jacob Reighard, John Dillon, and Seth Townsen had one tackle for loss apiece. James Zabel also saw playtime along the defensive line.

Washington’s 81 points are the most scored in their series versus Fort Madison. The previous high score was 65 points on homecoming in 2014. The victory ends Washington’s season at 6-3 overall and 4-3 in district play.
