The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team finished 2016 with their third straight win, hammering Mediapolis 35-7 on the road Friday night.

The Golden Hawks took control early mounting an eight play 68 yard drive with the games first possession that ended with a one yard Ricky Vargas touchdown run to put Mid-Prairie up 7-0. After turning the Bulldogs away on fourth down in the red zone, the Hawks marched 94 yards on 17 plays, finishing the drive with a four yard Vargas scoring run to double their lead to 14-0. MEPO climbed back in with a 20 yard touchdown pass from Brock Hilton to Weston Hartman to make it 14-7 but Mid-Prairie answered with a 10 play 75 yard drive that saw Keaton Duwa score to stretch the lead to 21-7 going to the half.

Out of the break Mid-Prairie got a second Keaton Duwa touchdown run to finish an eight play 60 yard drive, this one from one yard out to make it 28-7 Golden Hawks. Ricky Vargas would complete his hat trick of touchdowns in the last four minutes, capping a nine play 90 yard drive with a 19 yard scoring run.

Mid-Prairie was led on the night by Vargas who finished with 266 yards and three touchdowns on 37 carries. Keaton Duwa has 108 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 17 carries. Mid-Prairie outgained Mediapolis 457-251 including 400-114 on the ground. The Hawks finished with 28 first downs to just 15 for MEPO, stopped the Bulldogs four times on fourth down in Mid-Prairie territory, intercepted two passes and went five for six on red zone scoring chances.

Mid-Prairie finishes the season with a winning record of 5-4, MEPO ends the year 2-7.
