Mid-Prairie head cross country coach Mark Hostetler always refers to the field at the North Linn Invitational as a “mini state” meet.

The Golden Hawks held their own with the best in the east at Troy Mills on Saturday. The Mid-Prairie boys entered the meet ranked third in class 2A. They finished in fourth place out of 23 teams with their score of 135 points, finishing behind meet champion, No 2 in class 3A Mount Pleasant with 66, No. 7 in class 3A Marion, and No. 16 in class 4A Ames. Top finisher for Mid-Prairie was Peyton Miller who took fourth with a time of 16:33, a new Mid-Prairie school record. Other finishers for the Hawks included Zach Pettit sixth, Floyd Evans 17th, Andrew Schwartz 48th, Brent Foster 63rd, Miles Burrows 110th, and Samson Kimani 119th. The Mid-Prairie boys record is now 75-6 and they remain undefeated against class 2A schools.

The Mid-Prairie girls entered the meet ranked ninth in class 2A. The Golden Hawks were third out of 19 teams with their score of 145 points, finishing behind Solon and meet champion No. 1 in class 2A Monticello with 60 points. Anna Hostetler was the top finisher for the Golden Hawks winning the meet championship with a time of 17:58. Other finishers for Mid-Prairie included Marie as meet runner up, Greta Schmidt 41st, Abbagail Evans 46th, Kessa Jones 56th, Kyleigh Graham 79th, and Moriah Brace 109th. The Mid-Prairie girls record is now 54-9 on the year.
