Two area football teams will battle in Washington County tonight. The Highland Huskies (3-3 overall) will continue their homecoming celebration when the Columbus Wildcats come to rural Riverside for a district game. These teams were district opponents last season as Columbus ran by Highland, 51-18.

The Huskies snapped a three-game losing streak last Friday with a 67-14 victory over Van Buren (0-6 overall). Highland amassed 551 yards of total offense and score six of their nine touchdowns on the ground. Running backs Trey Lasek (132) and Cole Adamson (100) both ran for over 100 yards. Lasek found the endzone twice, while Adamson, Brady Hahn, Bill Burton, and Jake Wood scored one rushing touchdown apiece. Wood, Highland’s starting quarterback, threw for 112 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Huskies’ defense came away with three interceptions.

The Wildcats will look to end a four-game skid tonight. Quarterback Carter Colby is Columbus’ top offensive player, leading the team with 271 passing yards and three touchdown passes. His 386 rushing yards also tops the squad. Wide receiver Ruben Paz has caught six passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns. Columbus has scored 35 total points in their last four games.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. tonight at Highland High School.
